I often get asked about how to attract Northern Cardinals, so I thought it would be fun  to share some of the things I’ve learned. Backyard Feeding is all about Cardinals this episode. Dr. Bird answers a question about a Rose-breasted Grosbeak that forgot to migrate, and we have lots of fun stories in the headlines. I learned that birds can actually understand tweets from other species – not only that, but they will learn what the tweets mean and copy them , especially when it comes to warning signals. Certain male Birds of Paradise have feathers so black, they absorb 99.95% of all visible light – something science has trouble reproducing. All that work to impress the ladies! New Zealand has started building roadside gyms for its Keas in an effort to keep them from stealing traffic cones and getting hit by cars. In an effort to get the current administration to reconsider changes made to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, both Republicans and Democrats have joined forces to appeal to the White House. Let’s hope someone is there to listen! Our next Photo Contest is all about Cold Birds or/and Birds in the Winter.  I hope everyone is enjoying their winter so far. Join our forum about Cardinals to share any stories you have about getting them to visit your backyard. See you in two weeks!
