A lot of people contact us to ask how to attract Northern Cardinals. First you need to check to see if they live in your area by going to the Cornell website https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/. Here in Quebec they are not as abundant as in the South, so we have to make extra sure that they feel comfortable eating in our backyards. The 3 things that we recommend are cover, comfort, and the right seed. Providing some shelter, such as a cedar hedge or tree will make the cardinals feel safer. Northern Cardinals are not feeder birds they are ground feeding birds. A Seed Buster tray Feeder comes in handy to bring them up off of the ground. Cardinals love sunflower seeds, but we have noticed that they are especially fond of safflower seeds. Watch our video to see more!
