Title: Great Blue Heron Lunch on the Wing

Description: It was a sunny, warm day at the beginning of April, and I was visiting the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge (now called The Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually Wildlife Refuge). I was watching a Great Blue Heron hunting, and was surprised to see him pull a large garter snake out of the grasses. Apparently, the day was warm enough that the Garter Snakes had come out of their hibernation, and from that point on we saw them everywhere—and so did the Herons. It was a deadly game of hide and seek.
