Headlines:
It’s a time of year when ants seem to be everywhere. I’ve gotten quite a few messages about how to keeps ants away from my Hummer feeders, so I thought I would share some ideas on Backyard Feeding. EnviroMinute this week has a step by step guide on how to make incredible, long lasting sustainable bird baths instead of spending money on disposable plastic ones. Dr. Bird answers a question about Common and Red-Breasted Mergansers occupying the same nest boxes, and finally I have some great stories to share this week. Baby Puffins are being rescued as part of an annual event in Newfoundland, the Swiss are being encouraged to let their open spaces get a bit messier and the Acadia Birding Festival is something you should put on your bucket list.
I’m off to Gaspésie this week for some seaside bird watching.
Have a great time everyone!
Great idea to change the format of the photo contest!
I think that in the new format it should allow RAW images. My RAW photos always come out better than my JPEG images, and I always want to post them instead. In the new format you could change it from season 1 & season 2 to 2017 & 2018. And add a reply button to comments. That’s all I can think of right now. If I think of anything else I’ll let you know!
BTW, I like the new comment format here. I just noticed it and I don’t know how long it’s been here.
P. S.
This has NOTHING to do with the photo contest, but it would be nice to view other members profiles (don’t post the email addresses on the profiles, though).
Hi Omar, thanks so much for your feedback!
What’s the word on why chalk and cinnamon deter ants? I have a large hill (3′ in diameter) on the front yard that is about 10 years old. I have tried everything, including chemicals, to get rid of it to no avail. Wonder what happens if I continually sprinkle with cinnamon?
My youngest arrived home on Monday after 2 months in Mtl. My biggest fear was her deciding to transfer engineering programs from Manitoba to McGill I asked if she made it to Knowlton to get me another feeder – nope. She came home a pile of Fairmount bagels though. 🙂

O Fairmount bagels are the BEST!!! Bon appétit! Is she comeing back to Mtl? She has to come visit me!
