Lloyd Alexander is back this episode with a very informative look at how a camera focuses and how you can take advantage of that for better pictures. Dr. Bird answers a question about Nutrasaff, a relatively new birdseed on the market. There are 8 interesting festivals that we look at (VERY quickly) on Mark Your Calendar – be sure to check out the website for more info and the headlines bring us to New Zealand, Denmark and Cornell Lab of Ornithology. We’ll be back next week with Envirominute and more backyard feeding. Enjoy!

Looks like a bit of snow out east. Winnipeg has received 3 large storms in the last month. What I would give to see a male cardinal up against all the white around here. 🙂
I received a gift certificate for The Preferred Perch from my youngest daughter for Christmas. The PP is where I bought my first Squirrel Buster a number of years back.
Warren, it took me a while to persuade Cardinals to visit my feeders… Last summer they built a nest somewhere on my property! Who are your regular visitors now?
Impressed you can recall my name only from the email address. 🙂 There are cardinals in Winnipeg, but very rare and I have never seen one. I have heard the population hovers between 5 and 10 birds. Have to go south to Minneapolis to see them in abundance. In 2013 I wrote an article on the MN Landscape Arboretum http://arboretum.umn.edu/ for The Prairie Garden and I was being toured around saw many. We are too far north. Visiting the feeders now are downys, hairys, w-b nuthatches and chickadees, which is typical for the winter.. My r-b nuthatch seems to have disappeared as it has been over a month since last seen.
