Backyard Feeding:
Ask Dr. Bird
Headlines
Winner’s Circle
The weather is turning cold here! We’ve already had a few flurries and the Pine Siskins are emptying my feeders daily. That can only mean one thing…winter is coming! If you live in a cold climate like I do, I miss hearing bird songs in the winter. There is a new app called Dawn Chorus that you can download from the App Store or Google Play for free that allows you to set an alarm using up to 5 different bird songs to help you beat the winter blues. One of the professional photographers we work with has done a series of videos about bird photography that I’ll be including as part of backyard feeding. This episode has his first segment about lenses. Dr. Bird does his best to answer a question about a sick Northern Cardinal and we have some incredible photography on Winner’s Circle.
Stay warm everyone!
You are really bundled up the last couple episodes. How cold is it in Quebec? Touch wood, but I still bike to work in shorts; unheard of at this time of year. That may end Friday, or early next week. We had snow 22 September, but I was on Vancouver Island at the time and missed it. Lucky me. 🙂
I was raking leaves last weekend (I have 1 massive American elm and 3 large burr oaks) and there are hardly any acorns. Previous years I piled up shovelfuls for the squirrels. Wonder if that bodes for a mild Winnipeg winter.
I continue to happily live a cellphone free life, but that app looks interesting. I see black and white warblers most springs, but I could never ID their call. Very interesting.
